Ideas on How to Start Working from Home

Choosing to sell products on the internet is one of the best ways to earn money working from home. This is particularly good for people who are able to deliver their products in digital format such as digital art, written content, software applications or any type of digital resources.

One of the biggest opportunities for working from home has been the growth of the website Ebay. The site has given rise to an army of entrepreneurs all plying different businesses that they are able to sustain with very little overhead costs.

A good example would be the case of Marion Walsh. Marion is a qualified school teacher but stopped going out to work once she had a family that she preferred to raise herself at home. Marion was also a very capable graphic designer and started a business where she combined her teaching and desktop publishing skills with the intent to make money online.

She began making classroom resources such as work sheets, games, wall displays and study packs. She sold her creations on Ebay which other teachers and students found to be valuable time saving resources. The excellent thing about Marion’s creations were that they could be delivered digitally by email, so she didn’t have any expensive printing and postage costs and was thus enabled to sell at very low prices.

A similar home business was run by Robbie Needham who, due to a previous injury, was no longer able to run his car service garage. Robbie decided to pursue his other passion which was photography and collecting old photographs of people and architecture.

Robbie began making specialist albums of his work and collections and putting them on compact discs. He specialized in town and city studies and had collections of landmarks and faces pertaining to a location through the ages in one album for sale. The compact discs were so popular on Ebay that it enabled Robbie to travel to different cities around Europe to take and collect photographs.

Cameron Tilley is a 3D artist who works from home creating 3D objects for sale on his highly successful 3D art website. Cameron is an example of someone earning a living doing something he would happily have done for free. After university, Cameron went to work for a city consultancy firm in which he had very good prospects. However, once home Cameron was at his computer creating 3D art in his favourite 3D package. The package has a big following and enthusiasts gather on online forums to discuss their work. The forums also have market places and this is where Cameron discovered that his object creations were extremely popular and commanded good prices. Soon he found that he didn’t have enough time to work and do the 3D work as well. He opted to start his own business and hasn’t looked back since.

If you are not able to create products that you can market on the internet, there are still numerous opportunities to make money working from home with the internet. Tricia Frampton was a hairdresser who was able to give up working in the salon to make money blogging. Tricia does not sell anything herself on her websites. What she has been able to do is develop an expertise in commenting on hairstyles of the celebrity world. Her opinions have proven to be an extremely valuable asset as her website attracts millions of hits every month. Her income is derived from advertising that she hosts on her blogs. Tricia does not only work from home. She can carry her work wherever she goes and enjoys a significant residual income even when she is not working at all.
